I'm reading the online manual and I 'm stuck in the dynamics section.
I am on this page http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini15.0/dyno/_index [sidefx.com]
and am now moving on to http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini15.0/dyno/visualize [sidefx.com] under the learning Dynamics section.
This page starts off talking about Visualizing dynamics as if I know what it is and how to get to this point. I am totally lost. It reads as if this section is about pyrofx I think. Anyways If anyone could tell me where I need to be for the ‘Slices’ I would really appreciate it. I have no idea what slices are.
Thanks for your time and help!

Hi All
I've done a few searches but I am having troubles finding a good workflow plan for Modeling in Maya and applying VFX and rendering in Houdini. I'm looking for some guidelines on preparing a model for use in Houdini for Rain, Snow and possibly destruction VFX. I attached a pic of a scene I am working on for this project. Anyways, any help with avoiding gotchas and workflow tips would be greatly appreciated. My fear is that I will get too far into it and realize I've made a huge workflow mistake. First thing I noticed was that in Maya my scene is proper scale but in Houdini it's huge.
My plan as of now is the following
1. Model the scene (Probably will keep it High Poly)
2. UV and Texture
3. Bake texture maps
4. Bring into Houdini and apply VFX
5. Render in Mantra
I'm looking to render 3 extremely short shots(Maybe 6 seconds a piece), a rain scene, a snow scene and a sunny day scene. Might do a destruction scene if I have time.
Thank you all for your time and help!

Thanks Man! Strange, the file name is
MaleBaseMesh_SubD1_ArmsDown.OBJ
But Houdini is changing Subd1 to SubD${F} like below
MaleBaseMesh_SubD${F}_ArmsDown.OBJ
I changed the file name to the below by removing the 1 after SubD
MaleBaseMesh_SubD_ArmsDown.OBJ
Now Houdini reads the file without adding ${F}
MaleBaseMesh_SubD_ArmsDown.OBJ
Is this a bug?

I'm following the tutorial below. When I get to the 15:30 - 16min area I run into issues. I have a network that imports and obj, adds points and does a UV projection. I have another network that uses a grid and animates it. It's just a simple animation translating the grid plane along the Z axis. I key framed the grid to move forward and then back. Once the animation starts the network with the obj import shows all nodes with an error each one referencing the node its connected to as basically failed. The import node shows that it cannot find the obj. This issue goes away once i move the slider back to frame 0.

I forgot to add that during the simulation my cpu never goes over 5% use and my memory 6%

Can anyone offer advice on how to get Houdini to utilize my CPU? As of now I am trying to do a simple digital tutors tutorial and I feel that I am missing something when it comes to using the full power of my computer. For instance I have a simple piece of geo that is animated (just moves in the x direction for 240 frames) and is emitting particles (emit from source)(birth rate is 2500) but my computer seems to sim at 1 second a frame. When I watch the digital tutor video the same scene is easily simulated very quickly. I'm also noticing that even after the sim is completed the playback is just as slow. I can see the sim is completed because there is a blue bar in the time scale.
Anyways, if anyone can point me to some links for a good setup guide or offer some advice I would greatly appreciate it.
